TORTOLA
HISTORICAL DAY TOUR
$61 Per Person
Tortola, the largest of a small group of islands, will provide a contrast
of experiences on your tour. While the southern part of the island is
mountainous and rocky and covered wtih scrub, frangipani and ginger
Thomas, the north has groves of bananas, mangoes and palm trees and long
shady beaches.
The
south shore is the capital and business centre of the territory. This area
houses many of the oldest buildings, churches and the colonial prison and
is the most picturesque street in Road town.
You'll see these sights from your open air safari bus and with your
guide's narration, you will understand the past through the present. You
will receive the true and tall tales of the discovery of the island and
have a chance to visit the sites that contributed to bring Tortola into
the present. Government buildings and particular sites of merit will round
out the urban portion of the tour.
A stop at Mt. Healthy National Park will introduce you to the old windmill
where sugar cane was manufactured to produce brown sugar. A visit to the
100-year old Callwood Rum Distillery will bring an education of the
production of the Caribbean's most popular drink. You will be able to
sample some pure cane rum at its best.
You will have some time to roam and souvenir shop on this special island,
as you surely will want to take home an item to remind you of Tortola.
