BLACK RIVER SAFARI AND
NATURE TOUR
$49 Per Person (7 Hours)
Discover the
beauty of the South Coast with approximately a 1-1/2 hour boat tour.
Launch up Jamaica's largest navigable river and through Jamaica's largest
wetland area, the Black River lower morass. The tour takes you six miles
up the river and back, during which a running commentary is given by your
captain/tour guide on both the ecology and a little history of the area.
Over 100 species of birds have been recorded in the Black River morass and
many are seen during this trip. The endangered American Crocodile (C.actus)
inhabits the area and sightings are very, very frequent. Just remember not
to let your hands drag in the water to attract them!
The wetland vegetation is of special interest with three species of
Mangrove, Thatch Palms, Royal Palms, and freshwater swamp forest
dominating.
On this tour, you will also travel through Montpelier, and see the Ferris
White House and the Water Wheel. Rather than tie you into a set lunch menu
with a corresponding cost, your guide will direct you to one of many
choices for local food. Personally, we would be looking for the jerk
chicken!
A not-to-be-forgotten experience.
